In order to work as an armed security guard in Wisconsin you must be registered. Registration is handled by the Wisconsin Department of Regulation & Licensing Office. In addition to the requirements for becoming an unarmed security guard in Wisconsin you must also meet the following criteria.
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Complete a 36 hour Wisconsin State approved firearms training course.
The 36 hour firearms course includes:
- Classroom training
- Range training
Firearms certification must be renewed annually and a 6 hour refreshment training course must be completed.
The application process for becoming an armed guard is similar to that of an unarmed guard, except you should make sure have the following:
- Firearms permit
There is a $75 application fee. If you need a temporary permit as well as a regular permit the fee is $93. There is also a $48.50 fingerprinting fee.
