Requirements

In addition to the requirements for getting your security guard certificate in New Jersey. Getting a license to work as an armed security guard includes the following requirements.

  • Possibly complete firearms training

Firearms training course

If your city or county requires you to complete a firearms training course you can expect it to include handling and range training.

Application process

The application process is the same as if you were applying for certification as an unarmed security guard. In addition you must obtain a weapons permit through your local police department. Requirements for obtaining a weapons permit vary between counties and cities.

Fees

There is a $50 application fee and a $25 dollar surcharge. Additionally you must pay any fees in regards to background checks and fingerprints. The fingerprinting fee is $70.25. There may also be fees associated with firearms training.

When renewing a license there is a $40 renewal fee and $20 registry surcharge.
