Armed Security Guard Training in Arizona

Requirements

In addition to the requirements for getting a security guard license in Arizona. Getting a license to work as an armed security guard includes the following requirements.

  • Not be prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm.
  • No discharge from the armed services of the United States under other than honorable conditions.
  • No convictions of crimes involving domestic violence.
  • 16 hours of initial firearms training.

Course Description

The 16 hour initial firearms training course includes, but is not limited to;

  • Safe handling and storage of firearms
  • A minimum of 4 hours law and legal training
  • Weapon care and maintenance
  • Mental conditioning and tactics
  • Weapon manipulation and marksmanship
  • Threat recognition and judgmental shooting

The course is concluded with an authorized 30-question written test and a firearm qualification test. Both of which must be passed in order to obtain an armed guard license.

Maintenance

An 8 hour long annual refresher training course conducted by a certified firearms instructor must be completed. The course includes, but is not limited to;

  • Safety and Storage of firearms
  • A minimum of 3 hours of law and legal refresher training
  • Weapon care and maintenance
  • Mental conditioning and tactics
  • Weapon manipulation and marksmanship
  • Threat recognition and judgmental shooting

The refresher is concluded with a written test and a firearm qualification test. Both of which must be passed in order to maintain an armed guard license.

Application process

The application process is the same as when you apply for an Arizona security guard license, except you will also need;

  • Proof of firearms safety training.

Fees

There is a $100 guard registration fee and a $22 fingerprint processing fee. Renewals require a $100 renewal fee. Upgrading from an unarmed security guard license to an armed license comes with a $50 fee.
